Citroën Ireland Recalls C3 IV Vehicles Over Oil Jet Cooling Nozzle Fault

Gowan Distributors Limited, the official Citroën distributor in Ireland, has announced a voluntary recall of certain Citroën C3 IV vehicles. The recall concerns a potential fault with the oil jet cooling system, which could lead to serious engine damage or even a risk of fire. A total of 273 vehicles in the Republic of Ireland are affected.

Affected Vehicles

The recall applies to 273 Citroën C3 IV vehicles produced between:

  • 07 October 2022 – 20 June 2024

Details of the Fault

The fault involves potential damage to the oil jet cooling nozzles in the engine. This component is crucial for cooling the crankshaft and pistons during operation. If the nozzles are damaged:

  • The crankshaft and/or pistons may overheat and sustain damage
  • The engine could stall unexpectedly
  • In severe cases, a hole could form in the engine casing

If oil leaks from the damaged casing onto the exhaust pipe, there is a risk of a fire breaking out in the engine compartment, potentially leading to the vehicle catching fire.

Risks

This recall addresses a serious safety issue:

  • Engine stalling while driving increases the risk of accidents.
  • Oil leaks onto hot components pose a fire hazard, which could endanger vehicle occupants and others on the road.

What Owners Should Do

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Citroën Ireland. Repairs will be carried out free of charge at authorised Citroën dealerships.

If you own a Citroën C3 IV manufactured between October 2022 and June 2024, you should:
